Spring Blizzard in Yosemite
4 April in Yosemite National Park, California, USA.
Fresh from college grad, I flew to the States to visit Papa and my younger sister Julia. We bought Bai, my faithful handycam, and headed for Yosemite National Park, "a portion of the Sierra Nevada that stretches along California's eastern flank." From what I remember, Native Americans called Yosemites were residing in this wilderness when the Europeans discovered it; and they say that the discovery of Yosemite was the discovery of California.
Papa let me drive his jeep and we had fun listening to old Pinoy songs that he downloaded from the internet. Papa's song was Kawawang Cowboy, Julia's was Buchikek (I've no idea what the correct spelling is.), and mine was Trapik by Yoyoy Villame. It was Spring and the weather was perfect, but the steep roads to the park were a little slippery from frost. Papa took the wheel and by the time we got to the entrance, snowflakes started to fall like sprinkles from the thick sky. There was a blizzard and all the college kids driving up for their Spring Break trip shivered in their shorts and thin shirts. As for me, I was covered from head to toe. Ever since my plane touched down in SFA, I was freezing my ass off and no amount of layers could fully keep me warm. But wow, the beauty of the park was heartwarming enough.
